“Doncaster and the Miners Strike,” a captivating film project commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike and Doncaster’s significant role in this historic event. Premiering in November 2024, this project is supported by National Lottery players through The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Filmmaker Wayne Sables, a miner’s son, conducted over 30 interviews with individuals connected to Doncaster’s mining industry. Experience the 30-minute projection at Cusworth Hall on November 10, 2024, and the feature film debut at The Savoy Cinema on November 28, 2024, before it tours communities across Doncaster.
Projection on Cusworth Hall
Part of the commission was to project on to Doncaster iconic stately home Cusworth Hall. On November the 10th over 300 people came to watch the outdoor premier of the film. The 35 minute version was accompanied by Hatfield and Askern Brass Band opening the event with a stirring and emotional tribute to all the miners that endured a year long campaign to save their way of life.
